The Auburn Tigers delivered a powerful message this weekend, sweeping South Carolina in a three-game series at Plainsman Park. Fueled by an explosive offense and timely pitching, the Tigers overwhelmed the Gamecocks in what turned out to be their most dominant conference performance in decades.
GAME ONE: Auburn 24, South Carolina 2
The series opened with a loud statement as Auburn demolished South Carolina 24-2. The Tigers launched five home runs and recorded 20 hits in a performance that saw them score multiple runs in four straight innings. South Carolina took a 1-0 lead, scoring in the top half of the first, but Auburn scored 24 unanswered after that. Putting up 3+ runs in each of the 2nd through 5th innings. Ike Irish crushed a three-run homer, Lucas Steele added a solo blast, Eric Guevara chipped in with a two-run shot. The 24-run outburst was Auburn's highest scoring output in an SEC game since 1965, setting the tone for the rest of the weekend.
GAME TWO: Auburn 11, South Carolina 10
The second game, part of a Friday doubleheader, was much tighter, turning into a dramatic battle that Auburn won in walk-off fashion. Down to their final at-bat in a 10-10 tie, the Tigers loaded the bases before Eric Guevara laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score the winning run. Guevara was the star of the game, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Lucas Steele also contributed with a clutch two-run homer, as Auburn continued to showcase its relentless offense.
GAME THREE: Auburn 11, South Carolina 3
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Auburn sealed the sweep with another dominant showing, winning 11-3. The Tigers pounded out 18 hits, with seven players recording multi-hit games. Guevara capped off his incredible weekend with another 4-hit performance, bringing his series totals to a staggering 12 hits and nine RBIs. Steele remained a key presence in the lineup, adding two more hits and two RBIs.
This series was a defining moment for the Tigers, who have now improved to 12-3 in SEC home games, tying the 1999 team for the most conference wins at Plainsman Park in a single season. Eric Guevara emerged as the standout performer of the series, going 12-for-15 at the plate and driving in nine runs over three games. Lucas Steele also played a critical role, contributing timely hits and consistent run production.
The Tigers' offense produced a combined 46 runs and 51 hits over the weekend, leaving no doubt about their postseason potential. With their bats scorching hot and momentum on their side, Auburn is positioning itself as a serious contender heading into the final week of the regular season.
