Wyatt Hensler. Hayden Schott. They are a couple of the elite Ivy League names that have schools represented in this week's Ivy League Conference Baseball Tournament. The tournament format consists of the top four finishers in the regular season, and they will all be heading to New Haven, CT, home of the Yale Bulldogs to fight for the Ivy League Championship! We will preview each and all of these teams fighting for the one automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament!
1 Seed: Yale Bulldogs (16-5 Conf Record 30-12 Overall)
The Yale Bulldogs will come in as the one seed of this year Championship with a record of 30-12 overall with wins over Rice, Columbia, Iona, and Dartmouth. Led by Head Coach Brian Hamm in his third season with the program he has taken strides with this program year after year. The story on this Yale team has been freshman pitcher Jack Ohman who has dominated all season as he has pitched to a 8-0 record this year and an ERA barely over 1. He is just one arm along a dominant pitching staff as Tate Evans, Colton Shaw, and Daniel Cohen have been phenomenal for the pitching staff all season. For the Yale Bulldog bats about their whole starting lineup is hitting above .300 as they are led by Alec Atkinson and Kaiden Dossa.
Key Hitters: Alec Atkinson .344 4 HRs 27 RBIs 13 SBs, Kaiden Dossa .342 5 HRs 27 RBIs
Key Pitchers: Jack Ohman 8-0 1.08 ERA 78 Ks, Tate Evans 2.74 ERA 42.2 IP 49 Ks
2 Seed: Columbia Lions (16-5 Conf Record 24-17 Overall)
The Columbia Lions come into the conference tournament as the two seed due to them losing the series to Yale but they themselves have had a solid year this season. This includes a series win at San Diego, sweeping Brown, and sweeping Dartmouth. Led by Coach Brett Boretti in his 19th season with the program he has always had this Columbia squad fighting for it in the end. This Lions squad is always known for raking the ball around the park no difference this year led by Sam Miller and his 14 home runs this year and Cole Fellows .329 batting average. Jack Kail also has 41 RBIs for the Lions this season. The pitching staff for Columbia has also been solid as well this year led by guys like Baylor Hicks and Jagger Edwards.
Key Hitters: Sam Miller 14 HRs 51 RBIs .350, Cole Fellows .329 4 HRs 34 RBIs
Key Pitchers: Baylor Hicks 4.15 ERA 26 IP 14 Ks, Jagger Edwards 5.33 ERA 49 IP
3 Seed: Penn Quakers (13-8 Conf Record 21-18 Overall)
The Penn Quakers come into the conference tournament 21-18 with wins vs Lehigh, Harvard, Cornell, and Wagner this year. Coached by John Yurkow in his 12th season as head coach of the Quakers he has led the Quakers through the most successful seasons in their program history. Led by Jarrett Pokrovsky and Gavin Collins as they both have batting averages over .325 for this Quakers offense. On the Quakers pitching staff they are led by Marty Coyne, and Thomas Shurtleff as they are both key parts in their rotation and in the bullpen for the Quakers. I really would not be shocked to see the Quakers go into New Haven and shock some people this weekend and win the whole Ivy League.
Key Hitters: Jarrett Pokrovsky .346 3 HRs 33 RBIs, Gavin Collins .327 4 HRs 29 RBIs
Key Pitchers: Marty Coyne 4.08 ERA 4-1 44 Ks, Thomas Shurtleff 2.92 ERA 33 Ks
4 Seed: Harvard Crimson (9-12 Conf Record 12-26 Overall)
The Harvard Crimson come into the tournament with a 12-26 record as they have struggled this year but they have qualified for the second year in the tournaments three year history. They're coached by Bill Decker in his 13th season as the Crimson head coach and his resume is very nice including 726 wins as a head coach. This Crimson offense is led by George Cooper and Matt Giberti who have both been hitting over .300 this season but this whole lineup as been hitting solid all season. Pitching is led by 2024 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year Callan Fang who has pitched to a solid 4.66 ERA and has contributed to their wins.
Key Hitters: George Cooper .342 5 HR 29 RBIs, Matt Giberti .314 18 RBIs 19 SBs
Key Pitchers: Callan Fing 4.66 ERA 58 Ks 58 IP
