5 Series to Watch Outside of ACC Play
1.TCU vs. San DiegoÂ
The TCU Horned Frogs continue their non-conference gauntlet against another 2022 tournament team, San Diego. The Toreros have lost 6 in a row but they were to quality opponents in Oregon, Oregon State and UCI. Look for another great one this weekend in Fort Worth.Â
2. Troy vs. UCF
I will always take a 9-3 team over an 11-2 team. This will be Troy's first real test of the year and they look to rebound after dropping 2 midweek games to FGCU. UCF on the other hand will look to rebound after dropping 2 of 3 to Georgia Southern over the weekend. Remember, this is a team that swept Clemson at their place.
3. Iowa vs. Texas Tech
Another great record series, 12-2 vs 10-1. Two teams I have seen with my own two eyes as well. Yes, Texas Tech did not look good against A&M, and yes, Iowa has been playing D2 schools. But it's still Tech’s great bullpen vs Iowa's Keaton Anthony. Anytime I get to see Brody Brecht against a premier lineup, I have to tune in.Â
4. Rutgers vs. Georgia Southern
After a 4-7 start for Rutgers, they are quickly falling from Wagon to Fraud. But, they still have Ryan Lasko. So what if he is not hitting his weight? He is too good to not tune in. Hail Southern in this series all the way, they hosted in 2022 and look to be just as good this year.Â
5. UC Irvine vs. Gonzaga
1-10 Gonzaga vs 10-2 Irvine. I am going to be honest, I did not picture either of these teams having these records. The cross country Zags were in the mix for a host, and now they find themselves with one of the worst records in the league. Look for the Zags to come out and play better against an inflated Anteater squad. UC Irvine is hot and beating good teams. I could see this being a sweep for the Anteaters, but I am holding out hope for the Zags to come through.Â
